where you will find
everything you want to know about
Artworks by Anthe,
this is me Anthe Capitan-Valais,
but everyone just knows me as "Anthe".
My site has an assortment of oil, acrylic, and water media paintings, hand pulled original prints,
drawings, mixed media pieces and sculptures.
I am an American/Greek artist with strong ties to Greece which influence many of my subject matter. My recent landscapes, still lives, and Greek dancers have developed from my visits with family, as well as traveling throughout Greece.
On my blog page I outline my most recent works and how I am working to capture the resilience of a people and the soul of a nation and bring it to you through
my paintings. Many of the places we visited as well as
the people have since been devastated by the tragic wild fires in August & September of 2007. I have created surreal and representational paintings depicting my love of my ancestrial homeland.
The posted works are available through Acv Studio
Other pieces are available through galleries listed
on gallery link of this website.
I am a graduate with a Fine Arts Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts who studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Saginaw Valley University as well as
the Prosopon School of Iconography .
More info available at CV/ Resume link on this site as well as my blog page if you would like to know more about what motivates me as an artist and about the making of the work.

Biography
"Creating work is much like breathing, you simply do it because you must to stay alive. The creation of my art is a means for me to express my faith in God, glorifying him, and giving him honor through my work. I have always had a love of the Mexican & Greek Iconography. My travels to both countries have enabled me to incorporate their color sense into my imagery. I have felt the desire to convey multiple meanings in much of my work and to provoke thought. Nothing in life is exactly what it appears to be and art in my estimation should reflect the same as life, the unexpected."I would also like to say," Thanks for all of you who have offered your support and thanks to my Lord that has enabled me to continue to create. As many of you know the past few years have been trying for me in the least. Several car accidents have left me with chronic pain.
However I have triumphed over darkness. Thank God and I am back to creating new and exciting works.
It has been a great comfort for me that so many of you continue to support my efforts by attending my exhibitions and through adding my work to your collections. I just want to say thank you. This keeps my work very much alive and continues to motivate me."

Upcoming Events and Exhibits
The Greek Spirit Lives On... “Greek Life Now & Then”-Art on Asbury, 608 Asbury Ave.,Ocean City, NJ
5/1/2008-5/31/2008
Reception: (Friday. 6-10 pm and Sat. Noon -3pm)
"Art on Asbury" the gallery home of the Ocean City Fine Arts League, now in new location What: A series of oil, acrylic, and original prints of: Greek landscapes, traditional Greek dancers, costumes, and misc. artworks by Anthe. When: The opening reception with light Greek Fair is Friday May 2 6-10 pm Meet the Artist time schedule for Saturday the 3rd Noon-3pm Show will remain up from May 1- May 31 I will be in attendance Friday and Sat. the 2nd and 3rd. Last summer much of the countryside of Greece was ravaged by violent fires. Over 1/3 of the nation was consumed. As a tribute to the resilience of the people, my people, I have painted, printed, and carved images to represent "Greek Life." My oils consist of Greek dancers, landscapes of Greece, still life representing the smells and tastes of Greece. Also in other media, prints, and drawings I have continued the theme.
My aunt and uncle who is in her 80's stayed in their village and fought the fires with a garden hose. They were spared along with the rest of my family in Greece. Although they survived with their homes the land was taken. Much of their land was oregano and olive trees.
I will be donating a portion of my sales to a disaster relief foundation set up to aid those who have lost their land and lively hood. Hope to see you there.
