The Artist Says:

At this time where I find so many friends and acquaintances asking what they REALLY should be doing with their lives;..I am incredibly grateful to know with certainty that I am doing exactly what I was meant to do in my own life.
Painting , teaching and helping other aspiring artists, and making attempts to create something beautiful or interesting is my life's work.

Collectors Say:

"The colors,..the colors! Add to that the layers and you have a visual treasure every time my eyes rest on your paintings"
-Susan Kreutzer

Dealers Say:

"The unforgettable oils of Scott Mattlin gently embrace his viewers at once with their immediacy, elegance, and by an irresistible call for engagement. Scott's choice of subject matter, his masterful ability for composition, and his brilliant talent for the juxtaposition of light and shadow- all evoke a powerful old world feel, yet with an irrefutable modern edge.
Vibrant, passionate and tender, these eloquent works speak to a universal calling; the yearning for beauty, meaning, and connection within an increasingly disenfranchised modern day world"
-Virginia Wentworth Barnes

Biography

Scott Mattlin is an artist with a deep and passionate appreciation for beauty in the natural world and within the human spirit. This enthusiastic and sensitive joy is reflected brilliantly in his artwork. His work is executed in a vibrant, impressionistic style, which - while still retaining its representational roots, incorporates abstract elements, resulting in a uniquely contemporary union. Mattlin immortalizes the private world to which he bears witness. Whether it be an intimate moment captured between mother and child, a glimpse into the solitary reverie of a ballet dancer, or a private view into that sacred world of the timeless nude … Scott's choice of subject matter, his masterful ability for extemporaneous composition, and his brilliant talent for the juxtaposition of light and shadow – all evoke a powerful old world feel, yet with an irresistible modern edge.

As a young man, Scott traveled throughout North America trying his hand at a dizzying number of careers and trades. Nothing truly resonated however, until his childhood passion for painting was re-kindled. At nearly 30 years of age, Scott's art education began in Southern California. While preparing to enter the Art Center School of Design in California he developed a friendly relationship with a group of successful local artists who agreed to mentor him; among them, internationally respected wildlife artist Joe Garcia. Scott abandoned his plans for formal education and embarked on an intensive four-year period of study and painting that was to change his life forever.

Since that time, Scott's dedication to creating beautiful and expressive paintings has manifested broadly into the development of a wide range of enthusiastic collectors, exhibitions, and awards. Scott's work has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine, including "Best of the West," in the April 2004 issue. He has appeared in a wide variety of art and instructional publications. As an associate member of the Oil Painters of America, he has been juried into regional and national OPA events. He was selected to exhibit in the prestigious Colorado Governor's Invitational Art Show in (2004 And 2005) As a veteran art instructor, he has taught master watercolor workshops nationwide at the invitation of the Grumbacher Company, as well as appearing as a keynote speaker at their national conferences.

Scott's work hangs in private and corporative collections- both at home and abroad. During his years of representation in Alaska from 1992 to 1999 Scott's work was featured in 7 one-man shows and he was named the official painter of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race for five consecutive years. His rendering of Mount Denali was given by the governor of Alaska to the city of New York, where it is hangs in permanent display in Fire Station Number One – in commemoration to the firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001.

While living and working in New England during the year of 2005-06, Scott was invited to pleinair paint with internationally recognized master Richard Schmid in Putney, Vermont, where Scott did a portrait of Richard painting flowers in a nearby garden.More pleinair painting is one of Scott's projects for the Fall and Spring.

Scott and his wife Lisa are currently living in Denver, Colorado, where Scott maintains his new studio.
