About the artist, Don Rose
    Growing up in  the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and the coastal beaches of the Carolinas, Don spent every Saturday night emotionally immersed in Webley Edwards, "Hawaii Calls" radio program - aired live from Waikiki Beach.  Ukulele serenaded daydreams of palm trees swaying in the
gentle tradewinds filled this young boy's head and heart.  How could he have ever imagined that he would one day call that paradise so far across the sea his home.

     Destiny is a magical thing - years later when he fell in love and married a Native Hawaiian he found himself in the Island Paradise he had dreamed of for so long.  After making a home on the Leeward Coast of O'ahu and raising three children he returned to the mainland to care for aging parents.  Haunted by the unsurpassed beauty and splendor of the endless shoreline of O'ahu, Don found himself again revisiting memories of his youth.  This time when Hawaii Called," it took the form of art - and bringing those visions to life in the form of original paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor.

Currently Don resides both in Hawaii and in Western Pennsylvania and spends much of his time creating works representing the coastal Carolinas, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Pennsylvania countryside.  Of course, as always, he is drawn like a magnet often to the Islands of Hawaii and loves painting the beauty of the islands, and can hardly wait to get to his canvas.
